The Experience ...
Zoe's due date was February 13. The evening of February 11th, my daughter Jessica's birthday, her temperature was 100 degrees. She was restless throughout the night and threw up bile 6 times and by 2:30 am it had dropped to 99.6 degrees. She refused her breakfast so I knew early labour had begun. She stayed close to me throughout the day however by 4 in the afternoon she was restless and wanted to be in her crate. She refused dinner when offered and wanted back in her crate.
At 6 pm I refused to let her in the crate and she chose to lay in the "puppy pool" and began to nest. Contractions were now visible and her breathing was laboured. Mike arrived home at 6:30 and I was determined to get my 7:00 volleyball game in before the puppies began to arrive. Zoe accommodated my desire. While at volleyball my sister, mom and dad all arrived to take part in the excitement. With a window of opportunity still available, I stopped to pick up some groceries and coffee to get us through the night.
At 10:00 pm, after making everyone dinner, I joined Zoe in the puppy pool to offer my support. She was now in the final stages of labour ... it was like she was waiting for me.
At 10:37 p.m. Zoe delivered her first puppy with moderate effort. Her water had not broke yet so it was a bit uncomfortable for her, especially given the size as the puppy weighed
in at a whopping 15 ounces!
Her water broke just prior to the birth of the second puppy making subsequent deliveries much more comfortable, except for the two breach births.
The puppies continued almost like clockwork about an hour apart. I was my sister's first time witnessing the precious puppy miracle and she was amazed at the beauty of it all.
By 4:45 am all the puppies had arrive and it was evident that she was done as her shape had almost returned to her gorgeous hourglass figure ... so not fair!!!
Extremely well done Zoe !!!
